Simple story. Getting a jazz bass, stuck between Olympic White and 3TS. If Oly ages into a more yellow hue even with the poly finish, it's a no brainer, as im not super impressed with the modern sunbursts. Nothing beats a yellowed olympic white jazz with super dark fretboard!

  2. Unless you can find lots smoking bars to play in, expect to be happy in 40 years

Modern poly clearcoats still do age down...so yeah. If you want this look, make sure it's getting some UV exposure out of the case.

Polyurethane has UV resistive properties. That's part of the reason why the automotive industry switched from nitro to poly in the '50s. The color may change a little over time, but it will never develop the amber patina of nitro.

Thats unfortunate. The modern colours arent exactly eye candy. Ill have to keep pondering. Maybe i should go with the sunburst after all. I hope the rosewood atleast is nice and dark.

I wonder what would happen if you stuck the bass’ body in a smoker usually intended for meat ... not that I’m recommending you actually do that.

  7. I'd still rather have new Olympic white than 3TS.

Tbh kinda me too. Have you seen any Am Pro II rosewood necks? Ive seen only one and if wasnt super dark. Maybe oiling and time will darken it?

Get yourself some "Mohawk Fingerboard Oil" if there is an issue with your rosewood being too light. Follow the directions precisely and dispose of any rags or paper towels you use outside in a fireproof container. My only complaint about it is that now (as I had reason to expect as I've used it before) my fingerboards look far more black than anything else. They were dark before; now they're much darker.

Which is fine for my fretlesses. It is not a dye; it's a linseed oil with a penetrant.

It even makes that Indian laurel stuff they use on Squiers look good.

Yeah, and that's old-school poly. My brother has a strat like that from the 80s.

White not get the American Original in white blond or sunburst. Those have nitro finish. But not sure what kind of poly plastic whatever is under the nitro. It may not age either

I have a 97 MIA P bass with a poly finish in solid white that is a nice faint ivory now.

Bake it a few days a week in the Texas sun. You’ll get there inna New York minute.

I’ve always kept my MIA Jazz in sunlit rooms, and it has a nice creamy hue to it now. It’s not yellow by any stretch of the imagination, but it has definitely yellowed.

I have one of the last AmStd Jazz Vs with many AmPro-like features like the new bridge and tuners. The rosewood board is quite dark, looks way better than the pale pau ferro that Fender had been using on fivers for years. Could it be dyed? Mine is white but it's called Arctic White.
