I'm in love with this bass. An Alembic Series I 5 bass with some funky wood called buckeye burl on the top... Where to come up with $15,000..? I LOVE THIS BASS!

It looks evil to me. Not that evil can't be beautiful :D

  5. There are other luthiers who will use Buckeye Burl. Dave Pushic (DP Custom) and Matt Schmill (FBB Custom) are among them.

Well, duh, of course there are. But they didn't get ahold of this top. ;)

  7. :D I was saying that for the benefit of the original poster, so he doesn't think he has to pay $15K to get a bass with a Buckeye Burl top.;)

  8. Kinda pokey, but cool. Is that the "dummy coil" in the middle I've heard some Alembics have? What exactly does that do for the bass?

Too bad they wasted it on a Triple Omega body shape. Yuck! :(

The dummy coil is used so that you can use any blend of the two single-coil pickups and the total result is still hum-canceling.

    $15,000?!?!

Where's the matching wooden pickup covers???.... Where's the matching, wooden, turned, knobs???

And what's with all that chromed-crap hardware???

I'll bet the cavity cover is plastic or metal! (I could go on but that's enough).

Don't want to spoil your party. But, IMO, if you spend $15,000 on that bass, someone is walking away laughing..........and it sure as hell ain't you.

From what I've heard, the "list" price on Alembic customs is substantially higher than what people actually pay for them.

    Still, even if it's 50%. . .$7500 . . .

It is a beautiful bass, but holy god, I would never spend 15,000 on a bass. There's just something strange about playing a bass that's worth 3 times more than the car I drive.
