Opinions about Tokai basses?

  1. Hi, I was talking with a rep at a local used music store and he was plugging Korean-made basses. He said that they were the best bang for the buck.

In the back, he had two Tokai Jazz Sounds, they are 1964 Jazz replicas. I was pretty shocked at how closely they resembled Fenders, I thought they were the real thing until I looked at the headstock. They were selling for $499.

Well, Harmony Central only has one or two reviews about this company.

The guy at the music store says they come out of the same Fender production facility and they are dead-on replicas.

He then went on a rant about how Fender American basses aren't really American anymore and mostly Mexican.

Can anyone enlighten me on either topics, Tokai basses or the quality of American Fenders?

PS. I mentioned this in another thread, I'm renting/testing out a Geddy Lee Jazz bass, just so you understand my mentality...
