    Hi -
Background - I have a Aguilar 500SC head that I'm very happy with, though there are occasions where I'd certainly love to have a nice, compact, super light weight head. Anyway, I like the "500 watts range", as it covers all my needs - I have 2 1x12 cans (8 ohms each) and also a 1x15 8 ohm cab, so i can mix/match various ways, depending on the gig. Like most of you, I'm looking for clean power, compact size, light weight ...and I prefer a vintage, full tone. I typically set the Aggie "flat" or bring just a bit of the low mids out. All that said, I can get a Promethean 500 head cheap, but won't be able to try it first.... so...maybe some of you have tried both the Aggie and the Promethean and can compare and contrast, and help me find any limitations that I might expect. Even if I get the Promethean, I'll still be keeping the Aguilar...but sometimes it would be nice to have a head that can fit in a gig bag !

    Thanks in advance.

Hmmm...apparently nobody has tried both amps and can offer up a comparison....

    Oh well...

I have not tried the Aggie. But, I really like my Promethean 110 combo. It's my only SS head. I use the combo for practice and jamming, and I have the used the head with my Aguilar cabs (GS210+GS115) and a Sansamp BDDI in front of it for SVT emulation at a gig and it was thunderous and awesome.

If you don't buy the Promethean head, and don't mind PM'ing me the details, I would consider buying it for the right price just to have a backup for my backup - since they aren't making that head any more.

The Promethean is a more modern sounding, "tight and bright" amp than the Aguilar. Certainly a little less warm, and the build quality feels a little less solid. Sounds great though, just a different flavor.

I ended up going with an Aguilar TH500 though.

Yeah, I love my Aggie .... just thinking about the Promethean as a
quick and easy backup/small gig amp

When I think about the Promethean, the first qualificative that comes to mind is "angry".
It bites, it gnarls and it packs a big lot of punch and watts.
Very good little head and without a doubt the best deal on the class D market.
It can't do clean and neutral tones very well.
I haven't try your Aguilar so I couldn't compare them.

Interesting. I would have described mine as very clean sounding - with the Vintage/Modern knob turned all the way to Modern. It will do LOUD, but it sounds pretty clean to me. At least, compared to my Ampeg tube amps.
