Looking to buy a new head, found a Markbass Little Mark III for $379 at a pawn shop. Sticker on it says it was made in 2009. Any issues, Pros/Cons?
I bought one new, used it for two years and liked it. No performance issues and really easy to carry (I used a laptop bag). And the pawn shop price of $379 is about half the retail price. I only got rid of mine to help pay for an Orange TB500. Definitely worth it, especially for that price.
They have a good reputation, quality wise. I guess most people that trade it, do it to get an amp with more "tone", as the LMII and LMIII are flat and clean. But do a search - there must be a truckload of reviews on these...
In doing some research, I came across the Markbass Little Mark Tube 800. This amp seems to have some great features, although it is double in price. You can blend between Tube and SS. This seems to be a more versatile option for the type of music I play, Classic Rock and Bluegrass. It has an XLR input that I could use for a mic on my upright bass.
There's not an enormous difference in tone between an LM2/3 and the tube channel versions IME. To get more clean tubeyness I suggest a Basswitch Sonic Spark in front of the LM3.
