[/IMG] Are current Japanese basses still held in high esteem? I've been looking at the Fender JB62 Wal more now than in previous years. I noticed the black hardware seems to have been replaced by Chrome these days.
Oh yummy! If I could afford one, I'd buy that just based on the looks alone. And on the quality-front, it being an MIJ is half the battle already won. I could be wrong, but I think the smoked chrome was primarily reserved for the Aerodynes.
Ah, I see now. My mistake. I thought you were referring to the smoked chrome hardware on the Aerodyne Deluxe, but looking closer at that bridge makes me think it's the same as the 'Dynes. Still, great call on their part…bright, shiny chrome wouldn't blend too well with all that brown. As far as "modern Fender Japan" works go; I'm willing to bet the majority of TB'ers who've had experience with them, as well as not-so-modern works, would agree their products rock…sonically, ergonomically and esthetically. Personally, I love my two Aerodynes (an export and a non-export model). I also supah-digu their artistic takes on the classic Fender designs. Only Squier makes as many basses and guitars with as many painted/matching headstocks. Funny that!
