Origin and proper use of the term "Power Trio"

    Whenever i hear the term "Power Trio" it is usually used about a guitar/bass/drums or keyboard/bass/drums trio playing especially "big sounding", loud and complex music like Cream, EL&P, Hendrix etc. But what is NOT a Power Trio? Is it mainly about the group attitude, or does it have to do with amplification?

    warren haynes of gov't mule talks about the power trio label a little in "Rising Low" dvd and he references Cream.
