Hi there, I've been looking for a price list from the early 70's but I can't find one. Do you know how much a Jazz Bass did cost in 1970-1973? Thanks in advance.
Hi, I bought a new 1972 Fender Jazz Bass (in May 1972) and paid $245.00. I don't remember if that was the list price or included a discount. Bob
I bought a new P bass in 1970 for 250.00 w case. I was 17 and this was a layaway so you know I didn't get a deal. Maybe what, 20 bucks more for a Jazz?
I was trying to find out the same things you get a price list please post it. I bought a used '70 Jazz in '71. I think I paid $250 in a hard case. But my memories of that era are ... foggy.
$250 in 1970 is equal to $1694.68 in 2021. That's 577.9% inflation according to usinflation calculator . Com
While not a Jazz bass, I remember a new sunburst Precision hanging on the wall if Eastchester Music in 1971 with a $180 price tag dangling from its neck. I was in the store with my folks buying my first bass, a Norma violin shaped bass. They were willing to spring for the Norma at $75 but there was no way they were shelling out for the cost of the P bass.
Thanks for posting the price list. I now know that 72 was last year for Sonic Blue, Natural was introduced in 72, and walnut in 73. I also didn’t realize maple necks were an upcharge and that you had to pay extra for the case. Interesting that lefty basses and case cost more as well.
I bought a 1972 Jazz Bass from the PX in Germany including the case, while I was in the service in 1972. It was natural ash with black blocks. Paid $269. delivered.
That makes sense. My father bought me a Ric 4001 for my 13th birthday in ‘73 and it was $350. I still feel a twinge of guilt for having pressured him into spending that kind of money on a 13 year old brat!
