Orlando GTG @ Bass Central - 9/28/03

Discussion in 'Off Topic [BG]' started by Gard, Jul 22, 2003.

  1. OK, the "America Beware" thread has precipitated talk of an Orlando GTG, in honor of PICK's visit to our fair country - and because it's time I stopped teasing about it and finally DID it.

So here we go, if enough interest can be generated (y'all Floridians better stand up and be counted! :D), we will make it happen. Of course, all y'all Yankee TBers (i.e. north of Gainesville) are more than welcome to attend as well! ;)

Tenatively, we will hit the door at BC at noon on Sept. 28th, meet, greet, oogle, paw, and make loud noises for approximately 3 hours. I will speak to the powers that be (i.e. el jefe) about possible "special deals" for TBers' that attend and make any purchases on that date.

Following a few hours of ear and finger bleeding we can retreat to the local BBQ joint that shows all the NFL games (Smokey Bones to those that know it) to talk over the experience, drink beer (or iced tea), and rank on each other's teams while getting BBQ sauce all over ourselves. ;)

    OK, so who's in? :D

Some of the Atlanta Jawja crew would be very cool. So get ta packin fella's.

I know theres more Florida members than just me, Gard, and Mike.

I might be able to swing a ride to anyone in the Tampa/Clearwater area. It depends on if I take I-75 to I-4 in Tampa or RT 50 on in.

Just a tip, since we finally got ours in NE going, many thanks to Funkster and Josh Walsh , you may want to PM some of the Jawja boys, as well as any locals, they might not read the thread otherwise. We had one unnamed member that could not find the info 2 posts above, no less.
No reflection on the reading abilities of Southerners ... j/k :D

Even though it finally did, it took a while for the word to get out. About 2 years. And 5 pages.
And a lot of ramrodding. Gard, seems like you got a good start on this.

Smokey Bones? That's Darden's [ Red Lobster's] concept! Don't you guys have anything but chain
restaurants down there? Those Jawja folk know their ribs! Better be good!

Let's see how Native you Crackers really are.
Tell me who this is and what connection he has to Florida. Hint:His name is seen by millions of people daily.

Just to keep you busy while you are waiting for those responses to come in. I bet Mulcahey gets this one first.

  17. Thor -

Yeah, I'm gonna be PM'ing some folks to let it be known that we're going to throwdown at the hoedown in O-town...

    BAYBEEE!

    ...ahem...

As for the BBQ, yeah, I know Smokey Bones is a chain restaurant -BUT- their BBQ is well above typical chain restaurant BBQ fare (it's a 7-7.5 on my scale of 10), and the main reason for that choice is they show ALL of the football games, and that will be a Sunday afternoon during the season! :D If we was doing BBQ for the sake of BBQ alone, we'd be invading Bubbalou's Bodacious BBQ mmm mmm mmm!!!

I don't claim to be a full native, just a semi native (my folks are from here in FL, I grew up in Lousy-ana), but I'll hazard a guess that is Mr. Flagler of railroad fame.

Not Flagler, but a good historical guess.

Unfortunately, this one is more obscure, but more visible in SOUTH Florida.

I used to win bar bets with this question, but I had to phrase it differently so you couldn't do a
Google search to solve it. There are 3 clues there so far ...

I was surprised at the outcome of NE GTG, I thought we would have gotten a bit more reaction, we have 10-11 so far, though about 5 who would come could not.

In order to accomodate underage in the venue, ours is substance free, as the TB'er kind enough to host in his rehearsal space required that.
We hope to get some nice digital shots to share with y'all transplanted New Yorkers and Michigunners and Canajuns down there y'all.
    [ Weren't the Acadians Canadians? ]

Gotta love the Florida flag though, one of my faves, being a flagaficionado. Good Confederate bars and Seminoles. I am surprised Jesse J hasn't taken up the 'Let's revise Florida History' cause yet, looking for reparations or something.

Enough of taking up your thread, let me know when you Florida historians figure this out, no need for a RI boy fron Iceland to teach you your state history.

And I WISH I could be there.

** Totally green with envy **
