OT; How do you know if a DI box is broke

So I'm out playing bass last night then all of a sudden the amp starts playing up, I don't trust the electrics in the place so I rip the DI chord from the board out of my Amp - problem solved.

We try with no phantom power from the board & bypassing the DI box and there is no problem. So I guess either the cable or DI box is cream crackered.

At this point at another venue I might have given the sound man some 'advice' but this was a Gospel choir practicing in a church.

Question how can I use a voltmeter next time to check if the DI box or cable is shot - its a three pin connector.
