Other basses that sound like the Jackenbacker?

I don’t think they were trying to look anything like a Ric besides the pickguard, though. To me, it’s the same as what the ESP Viper is to the SG. Vaguely reminiscent, but by no means a copy. If you want an SG, it doesn’t cut it. If you just want something SG-ish, it’s there for you. Same here; it’s for folks who want something Ric-ish.
Come on, they were clearly trying to cash in on a vague resemblance to a Ric, complete with sharkfin inlays, that's patently obvious, and kinda cheesy IMO, but if people are willing to pay a couple hundred extra for that, so be it. They sound literally nothing like a Ric. Fit and finish was about average for a sub-$500 bass, which makes it sub-par for a bass at this price range. Double Meh.

It's funny, it looks almost as if you are not in agreement on this point.

When the Jacksonbacker came out, I thought of it as a delightful middle finger to RIC. Turns out Rick fans perceive it as a middle finger toward them.
Interesting.

??? That’s exactly what I was saying. Other than the pickguard, there was nothing all that Ric-y about them. The other guy seemed upset about the body shape. I was simply meaning that the rickenbacker ripoff ended with the easy parts.

I'd have to agree that it's a pretty nice bass, but... a little overpriced - when it isn't marked down to what it should sell for. I've noodled around on a couple of them (4-stringers; I don't do 5-ers); I liked them, but - no left handed ones, so I had to pass. If they had made lefties when they first came out? There might still have been an empty spot in my herd to fill, but... not no more. So, even if they did decide to make a lefty? Sorry; no vacancy - all filled up...

I'm not upset at the body shape...it's one of the most common body shapes of all time, I'm merely pointing out that something as insignificant as a pickguard can influence some people, and I find it funny that quite a few people see them hanging up, think to themselves "Wow, that looks like a Ric!" and wind up actually buying them based on that. Sure, they plug them in and play them first and either like or don't like the playabilityand tone, but it's still a case of rose-colored glasses to some extent. No doubt about it.

The first thing I did when I got my 5 string Jackenbacker was to remove the pickup cover. Now, due to some unexpected bills, I may have to sell that bass. For the life of me, I can't find where I put that damn cover. I'm sure I put it someplace where I wouldn't lose it. :banghead::banghead::banghead:

If I can ask without making anyone mad, or hopefully not sounding stupid, doesn't Jackson already use the same kind of inlays on a lot of their instruments, guitars and basses? No question it adds to the obvious mimicking of the Rickenbacker look, but is that aspect more of a shared thing anyways? I'm guessing Rickenbacker had them first but Jackson's had them for awhile too...

The problem is that everyone I know who likes them or plays them the opposite happened including myself. Thought they were a joke until they sat down and played the thing it was a dam good instrument. Wasn’t Rose colored glasses but sht stained lenses being cleaned off.

Yes. Jacksons have had shark fin inlays since the 80’s. Charvels did, back in the day, as well: it was Jackson’s whole thing.
