I don't think the Bongo's are that bad, I wouldn't buy one, but thier look is growing on me. :)

The first one looks like Dave Pomeroy's bass.

  6. On page 10 of the December 2003 Bass Player, Dave Pomeroy is playing a bass with that exact finish, though it's not a Warmoth. I can't tell what make it is.

    To each his own.

Oh, hi, Dave. I was just telling everybody what a nice bass you have. :D

Dave Pomeroy's bass is a Tobias that was given to him as an award, I believe for being named the first annual Gibon-Tobias "Bassist of the Year" in July 1997.

Here is a pic of him getting the award (from his site at http://www.davepomeroy.com)

FWIW... I think that is a really nice top! At some point this coming spring I plan on building one like it!

Also, you need to checkout his solo releases "Basses Loaded" and "Tomorrow Never Knows". Great stuff!

    :^)~

That is the second bass that Tobias made with that top. A friend of mine named Bruce Cullom who worked at the Tobias plant in Nashville came up with the idea. He brought down the prototype and I got a chance to look at it. It was the same body as a Basic or Classic but a bolt on. Wenge and purpleheart neck, bubinga body and a wenge and maple checkered top. It also had the killer B pickup position. Great bass, I think it was given to a R&B singer in an endorsement deal.

  12. Hey, what do you know? It matches his shirt! :bag:

    I KEED, I KEED!!!

  13. Crikey! That IS horrible!

  14. what a waste of wood..

  15. C'mon guys!
    It's not THAT bad!

  16. Does anyone else look at that picture and see Rick Neilson's grinning mug?

  17. this bass is made for Ska lovers!

  18. of course...if no one turned up to the gig, you could challenge the drummer to a game of chess....although i use 'challenge' in the loosest possible sense :D

makes me want to start a Cheap Trick cover band. Saw that the other day. Love the shape, but the checker just doesn't cut it.
