Outdoor gig on Saturday, going to break the "no shorts" rule

I got stuck in traffic in NJ on Friday and was running hours late, wearing shorts and a t shirt. Never made it home to change and barely made it to the venue in time for the sound check. My band mates are great guys and lugged all of my equipment for me. We're a pretty stylish band, we play more upscale clubs, but this was supposed to be an outdoor gig at a club on the water, so I didn't panic. It looked like rain, so they set up inside instead. I was the only one wearing shorts. Everybody had a great time, it was one of our best gigs. My choice in attire didn't make a bit of difference. Play well and people will have a good time.

 

There is no such rule, only fashion police.

The height of summer fashion in the 70's was tailored "walk" shorts with tall subtle patterned "walk" socks such that basically only 4" of knee was exposed. Dare Ya!

 

Don't forget the shades.

 

Don't worry, the audience will only think you're an eccentric musician.

 

Wear a tutu! Rock that ****!!!!

 

My rules for myself involve no "No shorts" rule. Really the only things I will never do is wear sunglasses inside, go shoeless or wear flip-flops or go shirtless.

 

A major wardrobe malfunction for me in Ft Lauderdale..it was 90 + degrees and humid..but I did not get the "memo"

The bass I am playing is a Phillip Kubicki Jazz Bass....through a Mesa Scout 4 ohm...

 

Go for it! It's outdoors, it's hot, no dressing room, and unless its some swanky deal or you have horribly disfigured legs no one is going to care as long as you bring the groove.

 

If you’re going break fashion police rules, you might as well do it right with flip-flops, shades, a hat, and a shirt with the band logo on it, along with your shorts. I know I forgot something the fashion police hate, so wear that too - and take pics and share them here.

Fashion? Look like you considered it. That's what looks professional even at a Roadhouse gig.

 

That's nice - thanks for sharing. Black shorts, shoes and a white shirt would have matched better with the others - but you still look good.

 

Socks, gotta have socks with your flip-flops.
