    Is there supposed to be ground wire on the output jack port of a fender jazz bass?

    yes of course. wouldn't make sound without one. (What am I missing?)

    It’s possible that some people/builders/factories rely upon the control plate to supply this connection. Bad practice, but it works just fine. Until it doesn’t...
