Ovation Bass - rare find?

  2. I have an 80's version in my closet. An Ovation Magnum III.
    These basses play well, sound real beefy. They have pbass like neck.

    Picture an 80's metal band like frank marino and mahongany rush..... thats the bass tone.

    Rare find...hard to say what you consider a find, are these collectors items, apparently not-see the price, but they are good for what they are.

    Lastly, its solid mahogany, which means it ways a ton.
    There were 3 versions of this bass and they differed by having either an on-board 3 band eq composed of knobs(like the one pictured) or of sliders (like what i have), or a full stereo output, at the time its was pretty innovative. They also have a really cool front pickup that can be dialed in and high mass u-shaped rear pickups.

    Keep in mind that Ford Edsels are rare too.
  4. yeah, Ovation basses are relatively rare, but if I wanted a 'rare' bass of that ilk, i'd be probably looking for a Martin EB-18 or EB-28 solid-body instead
