Ovation Magnum II action

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by Panda Licker, Mar 26, 2005.

  1. About a year ago, my uncle gave me his 1977 (I think) Ovation Magnum II. It was my first "real" bass, after I got rid of my J. Reynolds Pbass copy. Back then, I thought it was great. Played it constantly until I got my Tribute. Then it sort of fell to the side.

Recently though, I've been wanting to play it again. The front pickup is dead, so the amount of treble is insane, but it still has that special something. Unfortunatly, the action is insanely high, something I didnt realize when I first started.

I would love to set it up, but the shops around here dont even want to touch it (not that I trust most of them enough to let them touch it.) Does anybody here have any experience with the Magnum bridge? I've looked it over, but I'm clueless on where to even start when it comes to lowering the action.
