    Hey,

I'm building a new Fender parts Pecision Bass. I just bought an MIM Fender body, and my only concern is the choice of bridge. I will live with the MIM bridge, but I would prefer an HMV bridge. I prefer a stock appearance, and am familiar with Gotoh, Babicz, Hipshot, Badass, etc. bridges.

So, will the HMV screw holes match?

Have you compared basses with and without high mass bridges? Personally I don't hear a huge difference between quality bridges based on mass, and extended sustain isn't something I require from my basses. Traditional Fender style bridges look good and function fine on Fender style instruments, but if you want high mass the Badass bridges seem pretty popular and are often for sale in the TB classifieds. Even Fender uses Badass on their Hwy 1 basses.

    Yes, in most cases.

If you are determined to get a High Mass bridge, you may wish to consider a Gotoh 201. My understanding is that it is a direct drop in replacement for a Fender bridge.

Thanks for responding! I actually love the Badass bridge on my HW1 Jazz! Easiest bridge I've ever dialed in.

On my last builds, Ive tried to stay as classic as possible in appearance, while choosing the best of what's available now. Admittedly this has involved a Badass bridge with Fralin (my exclusive choice) pickups.

I will have a bare mim body, and need to buy a bridge. The mim standard bass bridge is no doubt minimally sufficient, but I like solid! I love the multi-grooved HMV bridge.

So; original question; (I don't have the body yet) , will the HMV fit, without drilling?

Well, I was composing while you guys were responding.

My understanding on the Gotoh, is that it's hollow, and only high mass looking. And honestly, I don't buy into the big high mass, high sustain, ooga booga.

In all honesty, I like the massive, but
OEM Fender look, of the Fender HMV.

    Will it fit?

I like the vintage look of the older Fender bridges with the threaded saddles myself. The Gotoh looks pretty nice and I had one on a bass for a while. I'm sure it's around here somewhere and if so will likely be on my next parts build (not the one I have with the through body string holes tho).
