P-Bass configuration... differences!

I recently realized that my Jazz Special (Power version) bass has it's PBass pickups reversed from the standard PBass arrangement. (This Jazz Special fom the 80's has active electronics and has both a Jazz neck pickup and Pbass pickups also):

a standard PBass has the E-A pickup closer to the neck and the D-G pickup closer to the bridge. On this Jazz Special, the E-A pickup is closer to the bridge and the D-G pickup is closer to the neck. Any ideas on why the did it this way? I'd think this would give the D-G string a little more bottom end as opposed to the harsher typical PBass edge...? Slightly earlier versions of this Jazz Special (still active, but not "Power") have the traditional configuration for the P-pickups...
