Who thought you could build a song on your typical E dorian P bass run?

---> well back in '78 the Commodores major pop act of the times did and it kills .... check this out

Work with your drummer and Scream for United Funk!

Ronald LaPread was a P-bass guy. Nobody thought P-basses didn't work for slap in the Seventies. There may have been more P-bass slap in the Seventies than Jazz Bass.

true, what's nice about the tone is how nicely it blends with the clavinet and the guitar. seems unusual for your typical semi busy slap run in E.

Ronald L did experiment with j's at times. Check sorry to say on the heroes album, another great stomper, but it was the 80's by then :)

Early Commodores albums through 1978's "Natural High" were basically no - BS funk recordings. Lots of killer funk bass lines/playing. From 1979 on the Commodores became Lionel Richie's backup band.

Commodores were a great Funk band prior to going mainstream/commercial.

    "Squeeze The Fruit"
    "Come Inside"
    ...still love "Fancy Dancer", too
