Read a bunch of threads on the topic. Picked up my first p bass yesterday (used MIM). Put a set of Chromes on it and wow. It's just what I was looking for. I love the tone.

Yeah, that's certainly an iconic tone.

I have the requisite P with flats. It's probably my favorite bass to play. Love that big fat punchy thump and love the way the flats feel.

The bass is in bad need of a setup, but I just can't seem to put it down the tone is so awesome.

I've been putting flats on everything lately, but the Precision with Flats is the best of the bunch.

Nobody's mentioned the great benefit to frets and fingers, so I will.

P Bass with flats give such a fat tone, but with the Chromes you still get a little top-end zing. It's really a fantastic combination. Got it on my Precision.
