p bass neck number

Have a buddy with a 78 P bass and we took the neck off and found the following numbers:

0102 1/4 2692

These are not penciled in but appear to be a stamping by some sort of ink machine. The decal on the neck appears to be original with a serial number of S895XXX. The neck appears to be consistent with the rest of the bass as far as aging is concerned. Seems most of the neck numbers I have seen, as on E Bay, are all by hand. Just wondering if this is a real Fender numbering system or a replacement. Sorry, I do not have a picture at this time.
