Alright, I've got GAS for a new bass. Little background on me....I play Alternative/Funk/Reggae I have a Fender Jazz and dig It. I play a mix of fingerstyle and slap. Money is a little tight but I play to spend about 1k or less either way. So

Option 1: Squire VM Tele bass + darkstar and various other upgrades :ninja:

Option 2: P bass of some kind (preferably seafoam green) :smug:

Which would you go with and why? :eyebrow:

Before you invest in the Darkstars make sure you are going to enjoy the tone, they are somewhat of an aquired taste and I don't know of anything that sounds quite like them. So if you want something original and powerful I would say go with the darkstar project.

As for the P-Bass, well I mean it's a freaking P bass, no way you can sgo wrong there.

My opinion is you decide what you really want, the reliable sound and trusted power of the p bass, or the beast of its own class that is the darkstar.

In that ballpark you could pickup a used factory Lakland Skyline Bob Glaub w/ Darkstar. These things sound great.

    here's mine:

I can help you out there. Listen to the soundclips of the Lakland Decade with the neck pup only; it's right up against the neck, as the DS would be in the Tele.

It gives you a pretty thick sound that close to the neck, so it might not be for you. I have a DS'd Skyline Glaub coming tomorrow, but the pickup is in the P position. Oh, and I already have a P bass that I love. I suspect you'll be happier with a P--although good luck getting one in seafoam, unless you get Fender's Hoppus sig model.
