So I have a geddy lee jazz bass, and love it, but I've been craving a Pbass lately so I've decided to build one to my liking. I already bought a S&D 1/4 pounder pickup for it. My question at the moment is more about the neck. I was thinking of getting the same neck thats on the geddy lee onto the precision body, but I wasnt sure if the neck cavity is the same size on the two, anybody know? Also I was weighing the option of getting a finished neck from warmoth that would be close to the same specs. Should I bother going through warmoth or just find someone thats getting rid of their geddy lee neck? I've never played warmoth neck, but heard great things. I'm sure I'll return with more problems and questions as the project rolls on, at the moment it's still in the planning stages.
If the Geddy is standard fender specs, then it wil be compatible with most other fender necks (precision and Jazz) and all warmoth necks. A warmoth neck might not have the exact profile of your geddy, but the nut width will be the same, and it may be a long wait if you're trying to find someone unloading a geddy. All the best with the project.
Other than on a Fender Jaguar, the closest thing I've found to a Geddy Lee neck is on my Peavey Fury IV. Do a search on this site for the Geddy Lee neck dimensenions. I'm reshaping an SX J neck to approximate those dimensions. Geddy necks are hard to find and are expensive. I believe USACG will make on for you: http://www.usacustomguitars.com/contours.html
Look for an American Peavey Fury(90's or later). These are a smaller P-style body with a jazz profile neck. They are very light and very comfortable and very well built. This will make a great p project.
A Warmoth neck will feel like a fire hydrant compared to the Geddy. If you want a neck that's similar to the Geddy, contact USA Custom. Talk to them, tell them what you want. They offer many options. I have a couple of necks by them and they are spectacular.
