Anyone know if a p bass serial number that starts with Z1 is a Highway series or a strait up American model?

Yeah no problem....This guy says this highway strat was a 2003 when it's clearly a 02....but anyway it's a "Z2..." like a regular American would be
    strattuners2.

Then how can you tell an American Standard from an American Highway?

Good question... body wood??? pots??? I'm sure a Fender buff will come to the rescue soon. "Where for art though, Fender stud..."

  7. Basically check the finish. If it's a matte (dull), transparent finish it's Highway One. If it's a glossy, traditional Fender finish then it's an American. The Z prefix pertains to Highway Ones and Americans. Also, the tuners (unless replaced by aftermarket ones) should be standard (MIM) on a H1, that is, no F logo on the back of the tuners. Also, I believe the bridge is different. There should only be one cut slot on each saddle on the H1 (the Americans have multiple slots to set lateral position of each string).
