I don't see why it would not be legit. I punched the phrase "Fender Precision bass california series" in to Google and came up with these (old) adverts:

    http://www.bass-guitar-museum.com/bass-7257-Fender-Precision-Bass-Special-USA-California-Series

    and:

    http://www.bass-guitar-museum.com/bass-10462-1997-Fender-USA-Precision-Bass-Special-California

Both are consistent with the one on the Ebay link - around 1997-ish. The truss nut being at the nut/headstock end is of no consequence, IMO. I reckon there is no rhyme and/or reason. As Walter Cronkite used to say: "That's the waaaay it is." But, ohhhhh, are they ever sweet lookin' basses; I love precisions in all flavors.

  2. Most MIM necks have the adjustment at the headstock not at the heel.
