Who else own a 'P' or P style bass with a "jazz" neck 1-1/5"
*(not the classic nut measure P +/- 1-5/8"). Do you like this custom feature on a P bass?

I know a guy with a stock 70 something P Bass with a jazz shaped neck. The label says Fender Precision and everything is original. I thought it was really cool but he wouldnt sell it to me! :meh: :bassist:

I dropped a jazz neck onto my P.

  4. 70's P-basses were avalible with a couple (3??) of neck widths.

  5. BTW my post was in regard to metron's post. Oh I might add that jazz bass neck widths on 70's P's isn't that rare. not common, but not rare either.

Fender used three neck sizes from 1968-1979.
    A-1 4/8
    B-1 5/8
    C-1 6/8

I had a precision copy by a company called Encore years ago,and I found the neck really chunky,so had it altered to a jazz style with the 1&1/2 nut width. The job was very well done, but the neck was still chunky at the back.Anyway,I used that for a good while before selling it and buying a Yamaha.

I stilll like the jazz necks though.Fender and Squire still make those Precision specials with the extra Jazz pickup and slim jazz style neck (like the photo Yvon showed) ,though only Squire make them lefthanded as well,so if I was to get one maybe the only thing I'd change would be the pickups.

Obviously, putting a narrower width neck will affect the string spacing over the polepieces on the pickup. Is this a big deal?

I'm trying to talk the Mexican Fender folks into putting the "wrong" neck on a jazz bass so I can have that configuration. Or, simply have the folks in Mexico get me a Jazz with an American maple P-bass neck or something. I'm trying... :D

The difference would be minimal, and probably not enough to worry about.
