P/J setup, Active/Passive, onboard vs. outboard

  1. This is kind of an extension of my Cort thread about suggestions for a new P/J pickup setup that would allow for a slap/funk/jazz tone.

The cort has a small cavity hole so an onboard preamp and active electronics is limited.

I'm not in any set budget because this pickup replacement is just to hold off the purchase of another bass, but I'm always interested in the best tone for the value and that is why the I am looking into outboard preamps such as Sadowsky's as an alternative to an onboard battery powered one.

I would like some help in a decision about what pickup company would provide me with such a tone, where I should purchase them, the benefits on onboard/outboard preamps, and so forth.

    Thank you.

  2. try replacing it with bartolinis w/preamp or EMG PJ(even without preamp will also work!)they're really versatile!!! Have fun and gudlak...

  3. I've decided on a bartolini P/J setup and no onboard preamp because the control cavity is pretty small and a battery in there would be tight. So passive bartolinis and a sadowsky preamp is what I'm going for.

  4. Give the Barts a chance before buying the Sadowsky. You might decide you don't need it.
