I'm wiring a P/J set up with P solo, Parallel, Series, J solo. I'm really curious about adding an extra tone knob and output for the J bass Bridge Pickup when the switch is soloing the P-Bass pickup.

I'm wondering what options I have for switching the J-pickup to a second tone knob and then second output.
I have a stereo jack... maybe that'd work? Or a switching jack? Maybe I can use the switch I'm using in some way... or a different rotary switch?

    Here's the switch I'm using:

Anybody else do this? Seems like it'd be really awesome for studio work.

  2. That's only four settings. Why do you have a 5 position switch? I think you need a 4 position switch with 3 poles (4P3T). As a bonus, these are much cheaper. Just a dollar out of Asia, or probably 3 bucks from an electronics retailer.

Personally, I'd use a stereo jack and have the J switch to the ring connector when the P is solo. This way with a regular guitar lead, it just goes to earth and the switch and jack work perfectly normally untill you plug in a stereo Y lead. Then you could run the J to another amp or channel. You could also easily run a passive tone pot and cap from that ring connector. You'll need a stereo (dual gang) volume pot and a stereo tone pot, or you could use two separate tone pots I guess. You could use a stacked tone pot if you only have three holes in your bass.

Thanks for the info! I had a feeling I might need a difference switch. I chose this 5 way switch because it was the only rotary one I could find on All Parts. Also I figured having a kill position next to the P-only position might come in handy.

I already have stacked Volume and Tone pots ready for this modification. I used 500k/500k for Volumes and a 500k/250k stacked pot for tone. I couldn't find a 250k/250k, but I figure the 500k will be fine for the extra output tone pot.

I just need to figure out how to wire the switch with this addition. Do you have a wiring diagram on how this would look?
