P or J

    I want a tight, punchy, funk sound with really good low end. Should I get a bass with P style pickups or J style?

    You can get a pretty good sound out of either a P/J setup or a regular J (two pickups) setup. If using only one pickup a Music Man works well, but with any one pickup you limit the sound of your bass. By the way, a funk/fusion friend of mine had a P-Bass special from the early eighties that had two sets of P pickups, it was great sounding.

    I'd go with the J. Wait I already do. I just think that the J bass give you more tonal options than the P's do. You have another pickup in them that you can use to mold your sound, by blending the 2 together.
