Anyone think that taking a stock pickup, which has exposed pole pieces (SD Quarter Pounder P Pickup) and putting an aftermarket cover, which totally encloses the pickup's pole pieces, will affect the tone and/or output? I'd be replacing the covers purely for a cosmetic purpose so that the pole pieces aren't visible.

  2. maybe slightly alter both, not much i wouldnt think tho

I doubt it. Unless they're metal, the magnetic field should remain the same.

  4. Where do you buy pick up covers anyway?

The magnetic permeability of both wood and plastic is for all practical purposes the same as that of a vacuum (same with air). Therefore the only possible difference would be if the pickups are further away as a result of being in the shells.
