    Brooklyn Park, MN
i was at a small club show and the bassist was using
(among other things) two 18 inch JBL subs in his rig
powered by a PA power amp from the direct out of his
gallien-krueger head. does anyone else use this type of setup?
is there really that much of a difference between PA subs
and bass amp subs? just curious
  2. There is no difference in PA subs and Bass amp subs but I can't really think of any bass cabs that has an actual subwoofer. The 15 & 18s in bass cabs are usually full range (well almost) woofers. So the answer is yes if you want to know if those PA 18s are different than the 18s in most bass guitar cabs but if you happen to run across a bass guitar cab with an actual subwoofer in it, the answer would be no there is no difference (except of course maybe the quality of the brand or model of the speaker).

Stefan Lessard of the Dave Matthews Band uses Meyer Sound PA subs. 4 18's and 4 10's.
