Pandora Mini - can it sound good through a big amp?

Discussion in 'Effects [BG]' started by Jim Mass, Apr 23, 2012.

  1. Hi,

I like the sounds of my Pandora Mini through my earbuds (a lot), but haven't had any luck reproducing those through a 'big' amp (a GK MB112 actually) through the Pandora's 1/4" 'output' jack. What I'm getting is weak signal, watered-down effect, and hiss.

I've tried to start with flat EQ on the amp, etc - all the things you'd normally do if you had any stomp box in-line.

Any tips to improve this? Or am I asking too much to expect this box to do this?

    Thanks,
    Jim

So, you are plugging a cable into the Pandora's LINE OUTPUT to the GK's normal instrument input? And you've tried a different cable to make sure that it isn't it?

It looks like a neat little box.

  3. Oh yeah, tried switching cables, etc. Yes, the output of the Korg into (tried both) passive and active inputs of the GK.
Yep, a neat little box (through the buds, anyway).

I got one and don't like it that much because of the excessive hiss. But I use it mostly when I'm on a business trip and can take a bass with me. Haven't used it much with my amp.

One thing about the hiss is that you can control it somewhat with the volume knob. At full volume there is a lot of hiss but if you turn it down a bit there is less hiss. I read somewhere (can't remember where right now) that some people have had luck using the headphone out (1/8 jack) instead of the 1/4 jack when connecting to an amp.

You may also want to play with the level and NR (noise reduction) settings for the patch you're using. I know I've played with these settings to get good sounds but again, only with headphones.

Maybe if you plug it in from the headphone out into the aux in of the amp?

  6. Hey Guys, thanks for responding.

Yes, I did find out about the hiss being related to the volume. thing is the gain ends up being so low when the hiss is gone. I didn't try turning up the noise reduction on the effects, will give that a try.

On the headphones - > aux in on amp idea. Yes, I did try that, and that actually does maybe a bit better than the other route in terms of clean sound. But, amp controls (on my GK anyway) don't control aux in levels at all, so the only control is the vol on the Pandora. Once that's max'd out, it's done.

Along those lines though, maybe headphone out into active amp input? Might be gross, might be OK. I'll try tonight...

(Still, would be better if it worked well as Korg intended with the 1/4 output jack.)

    Again, thanks.
