I'm about to order a bass specifically for CGDA tuning (octave below cello). On my Hembry doubleneck the CGDA-tuned neck has a standard P pickup moved a little closer to the bridge so the C string has good clarity. This works fine but I'm wondering what other options to consider for the new bass.

I want to keep things simple - one pickup, one volume knob. I want a pretty old-school sound that will fit easily in a rock band and have nice thump for folk gigs. I also tend to play too hard sometimes - bad habit from mostly playing DB.

What other pickups should I consider? Maybe some hot-rodded P variation? A single-coil P? A Darkstar? A passive soapbar humbucker of some sort? I hope some of y'all who tune, say, BEAD or CFBbEb can offer me some advice.
