Passive soapbar shaped split coil p-style pickup

Discussion in 'Pickups & Electronics [BG]' started by Inconnu, Dec 24, 2017.

  1. Hi!
The next project I’m preparing for is to swap the EMG HZ humbucker of my Spector Spectorcore for a passive split coil, p-style pickup housed in a standard 3.5 inch x 1.5 inch soapbar.

    Who makes a good one?

Dingwall makes their Big Splits which are non-offset split coils available in a 3.5" housing. They also make the Dingwall-Nordstrand FD3 which is much spendier than the Big Splits but is an offset-coil pickup IIRC. Denalo also makes a quad-coil pickup that can be re-arranged via switching to a variety of configurations. I don't know how those would work in an all-passive setup, however.

Alternately, you can jam in a set of EMG 35P4X pickups and a battery, if you can stand to go active. Those are reverse-P pickups and should sound killer.

  3. I'm going to go ahead & bump this in case there are other suggestions.

    Here's my wish list:
    passive
    exposed poles
    reverse P
    4-string

Name a bass that has them installed for bonus points.
