Is anyone else here obsessed with Mike Patton? I think the man can do no wrong. I love Faith No More (after Chuck Mosley ), Mr. Bungle, Fantomas, Tomahawk, I even kinda dig his solo stuff (Adult Themes for Voice is cool). I'm currently checking out his stuff with Lovage, and he has done stuff with Dillinger Escape Plan and Sepultura, which is awesome. Two fantastic bands. I'm sure I'm leaving something else out... but he's done so much. IMO, Greatest Rock singer. Fantastic range, he can do all styles, and has done some of the most innovative music of his generation.
His voice is annoying. I like some of the wierd murmurs he pulls off in Fantomas, but I think he renders Tomahawk unlistenable. I love FNM, Fantomas & Tomahawk, they all have such tight musicmanship. It's great. But his voice. Ugh. So horrible. He even ruined the DEP Abum Irony is a Dead Scene, if you ask me. (This is all comming from a Slint fan. Flashy vox suck. And range. Yeah, range sucks.)
Mr. bungle's aiight, I really enjoyed Los Fantomas, but other than that I haven't heard any Faith no more or tomahawk or anything else. though I do like his work on automator's Lovage album.
I think he's very original. He's taken vocals to a whole new level. And his stage presence is awesome to see, not to mention that he can reproduce those lines live as well as in the studio. Bungle, FNM, and Fantomas are my favorites from him though. Plus his Sepultura work too.
tons of good stuff from that greasey midget. mr bungle is the reason i started playing bass, trevor kills. one of my favorite bands ever. fantomas: again a favorite. i met my wife at a fantomas show! can't wait for the new album (supposed to be out in the fall or early next year) maldoror: best noise cd EVER tomahawk sucks. i was expecting these guys to rawk, but it comes off pretty weak in my opinion. FNM: never got into them. there's some great stuff, but i never bothered. lovage: get a bottle of wine, turn down the lights, turn on the cd and make sweet hump to your woman all night. DEP with patton: this is what metal should be. my personal opinion... patton should quit all his other goofy acts, and just play with DEP. they can do all the fantomas stuff better than fantomas. buzz will be free to tour with the melvins, trevor can do his jazz stuff, and all is good with the world. if you're getting hard up for bungle, just listen to secret chiefs3, sleepytime gorilla museum or estradesphere. the only real problem with patton is that he's a LA lakers myopian. ugh...
Also check out a group called Dog Fashion Disco. Their quickly becoming one of my favorite bands. Or theres another band called tub ring which I'm starting to look into.
Patton is my fave singer. he can do everything like if he's been doin it fer years(in fact,he has!). All his projects are great, bungle, fantomas, DEP, with melvins, tomahawk, etc. But FNM is his greates work, man. How long hast it been since their last album? I could really be glad to hear some new FNM tunes. Dammit, 90's decade come back!!!!
I'm a big fan of Faith No More and cannot imagine the band with any other singer. I saw them play in Fort Lauderdale way back in 1993. Patton was awesome. Someone threw some roses on the stage. He picked them up and ATE them. He proceded to sing and petals were flying out of his mouth with ever word! Totally cool. I wasn't aware until just now that Patton sang with Sepultura. That must have been quite recently. I"m sure he added his special flare to their music, too.
I thought the Irony EP was great. As well as melvins work, and Faith no more. Fantomas are great.. cant say much for tomahawk, I haven't really listened to them. I would like to see Mike do something with.. um...mr.. um.. reznor.. hmm, that would be kinda cool, maybe do some remix's of some stuff of Pretty Hate Machine.
Don't hold your breath for a new one, they all hated each other by the end of their career together. I heard a rumor that Fred Durst and some other nU guys tried to pay FNM to get back together and tour together and they said that they would only get back together on their own terms, not because LimP BiZkIt wanted them to.
