Paul McCartney Dings His Hofner

Heck, he can afford to buy the Hofner company!
He knows it's a tool that gets a job done.
I'd be willing to bet that McCartney wouldn't have to pay for a Hofner.
I'm also willing to bet that's not the Hofner he played many years ago. That one is worth mega bucks and is likely in a safe somewhere waiting to be auctioned off by his heirs.
He dings them more Hofner than not, these days.
The first lefty was lost, stolen, whatever. The second one he stripped the finish completely off and still has it.
He may still have it, but that's not to say it's the one he takes to gigs.
The real Paul died in a freak bus accident in 1967.
He has Replicas. I was backstage at a stadium show of Macas years ago and I happened to be standing next to bass tech town (I think Hamish Stuart was playing bass as well that tour). There it was, Beatles set list taped on the side and all. I reached out and touched it while the tech was not looking. When the tech came back I asked if that was really the one. Nope.
I have decoys, too...not basses but me. While the decoy "Riis" is getting dinged-up / abused at gig venues, the real me is home watching Antiques Road Show with popcorn and a Reed's.

I saw Sting the other day and was joking with muso friends that he's probably playing the relic'd Fender reissue of his famous '51 (?) P rather than the real thing.
It's enough of a risk having it hanging from a wall in a studio. I just don't think he would risk touring the real one, for the sentimental value as much as the financial.
