Which strings Paul Mccartney used in the hoffner and Rick basses wiht the beatles? I know about the Rotosoud RS-88S on the rooftop concert, what else did he used? Thanks.

here is a link to the pyramid strings, they would definitely work on the Ric. I have always wanted to try them but i can't justify a $72 experiment.

I know, I know, US$ 72,00 experiment is complicated. I just bought the GHS Precision Flatwound and installed it on me Epihpone Viola. It gives the hoffner beatle sound, very similar, let's see how they work with the band on Friday.
i was thinking of changing my rick over to flatwounds, does anyone have problems with an increased/decreased level of neck tension....

I switched the strings on my epi Viola to ths RS-88s .65 an did't noticed any problems and I am currently using GHS precision flatwound .45. I've never had a ric, but, i loks like it would be stronger then the viola epi.
That's a bit of an old canard, actually two at once. Not all flats have particularly high tension, and modern Rics' necks can handle tension like any other bass. Some of the older ones, specifically the 4001, had very slim necks that would bow under heavy tension, but I suspect just as many were ruined by improper trussrod adjustments to decrease the relief.
My '79 4001 has had high tension Rotosounds on near 30 years and the neck is straight as an arrow, and super thin to boot.
