I did a search and found nothing about an alternative method of buying or paying for equipment, other than PAYPAL? Really fed up with their system and high fees. Is there newer technology to be had?
I bank with Wells Fargo, and their internal transfer service is called Zelle, which I use a lot with others who bank with them. Ive also used Venmo and Cashapp, although I appreciate paypal's buyer and seller protections.
Wow, thank you for quick reply, I have bought and sold on Talkbass since 2008 with perfect feedback using PayPal. Now they want to freeze my funds, even after delivery, which is a eBay tactic. They will not answer phones to release my money.
PayPal is great ...until you have a dispute, and then they turn into a turgid bureaucracy incapable of deviating from their canned script. I’ve used Zelle a couple times, not nearly enough to have an opinion on how they compare to PayPal though.
These are well known eBay tactics. Thinking they are huffy because I didn’t print one of their shipping labels and Use UPS. I live in the country and the postal service is 65.00 cheaper than the UPS in the next city. Every time I enter the USPS tracking number, it directs me to the UPS website. Can’t get anything but recorded messages. My buyer has received his bass and is happy with it. I will be looking for different payment options for sure. They got their pound of flesh (67.00),now they need to release my funds.
I’ve been using PayPal forever to buy and sell on tb and other places, and have never once used their label. I use FedEx or USPS, rarely UPS. So I doubt that’s the reason. Also, the UPS and USPS redirection doesn’t seem to have anything to do with PayPal.
I too have been using paypal since 1998 for just about everything online. Buying and selling lots over the years, never had funds frozen. You might need to contact them to find out whats up.
I sold hundred of items using eBay/PayPal years ago with all positive feedback and they did the exact same thing to me. Froze my funds for months after I sold a motorcycle on eBay for “low feedback and suspicious activity” This was with 292 positive transaction feedback overall and the buyer picking up the motorcycle in person and being 100% satisfied with it. They sit on your money and collect interest and make it harder than pulling teeth to get it released. They eventually got slapped with a class action lawsuit and I received a check for $30 for signing on to it. At one time there was a website called paypalsucks that had literally thousands of similar stories. I believe it’s been scrubbed from the internet at this point. Anyway, I’ve never used PayPal for anything since. They are one of the scummiest companies I’ve ever had to deal with. I just sell on reverb now and use their payment processing. Costs me the same as using PayPal but I’ve had zero issues with them.
I use PayPal with no problem. I also have used Venmo and Cash App with no problems. Just lucky I guess? Thanks for the info on PayPal. That's why I love this forum!!
E-bay / PayPal came to my rescue with a low-dough purchase last month. With little prompting, they investigated a "not delivered" purchase, immediately refunded my money, and kicked the seller off of E-bay...probably blocked PayPal as well. Paypal did the same a few years back with a non-Ebay purchase of an inexpensive enclosure...again, not delivered. They recovered and refunded something stupid like $14 (balance of his accounts) but it hosed-up the seller's accounts to the point where he had to contact me directly to get things straight and sign-on to a release. Riis
I don’t use them anymore because I don’t agree with their policy that someone can raise a dispute for something you sold them for up to 180 days. I can see trying to protect buyers but 180 days is just way too long.
I closed my PayPal account last summer. They keep changing their terms of service and I don't like the high fees. It is cheaper to do a bank transfer than to use PayPal.
I use PayPal with zero issues. As long as both the buyer AND seller act responsibly, there are no problems.
I've been using Paypal for years due to the tie in with Ebay which is now severed. They are great for the buyer but not so great for sellers.

It definitely has nothing to do with PayPal... As a carrier for the PO... I'll say that many folks don't realize that ups dumps tons of their packages on us for delivery... TONS... With that said, I don't know anything about the redirection to their site, but it could possibly be related to that... maybe something to do with size/weight/dimensions..??? Not sure, just tossing out what I do know
