Sorry to create a thread for this but I'm getting desperate Im looking for a Phat Hed pedal to replace my problematic one on my pedal board. I'm in the UK and it seems that they are in short supply, ebay only ever turns up a few in the US and the shipping is horrific. I know they have been discontinued and the possibility of finding a new one looks slim to none. I saw a used one in a local music shop about 6 months ago but never bought it as my pedal was ok back then, but I'm guessing there are many unloved ones out there that I could give a bit of love to. Anyone? Before anyone asks, I have considered other distortion pedals, however I have failed to find one that quite gets the sound I want. if the PD7 is out of the question, I'd love to get that Muse bass sound if anyone knows whats going on with that - an idea would be great Cheers
wow realy? I have a double muff on my guitar rig but it seams to suck the bottom end out if used with bass, Is the Big Muff better with low end?
For the Muse sound the Hardwire CM1 gets a lot of love around here or a RAT. I would imagine they could get close to the PhatHed on overdrive, attack setting 1, although I've never used one. I've had mine for a couple of years now and you could get them pretty easily then but I'd not seen any for a while until the other day.
If money is no option, check out the darkglass distortion pedals. it's no Ibanez pd-7, but they are great pedals to own.
+1 on the bass driver. I own one myself and it was my first bass distortion pedal. I still like this pedal for it's fizzy high-gained sounds. not to mention it's got a wide range of sounds. it can go from a warm overdrive to an extreme distortion without obliterating lows.
Cool, I think I'm gunna go check out some of these suggestions as youtube demos don't ever do justice. Out of curiosity anyone here good at electronics who might be able to point out what might be wrong with my Phat Hed if i gave them a detailed description of the issue and a schematic? I'm an electrician and have basic understanding of the components but diagnosis is a bit above me. any pointers would be most welcomed! The short of it is ;- when I stomp the sound is very poor like an active bass with a flat bat, akin to a pigeon farting in a biscuit tin. After about 30 seconds it eventually sounds almost right, if I kick it off and back on the whole procedure starts over. In bypass mode the sound is unaffected. I bought a new bigger power supply thinking that might be an issue and nothing changed.
I've got a Pd7, b7k and vmtd. The darkglass stuff, while superior in pretty much every dimension to the pd7, won't get you that fizzy, acidy sound. Trying to figure out a home for the pd7 on my board as a result.
Yeah true. the darkglass distortion pedals doesn't have the same fizz as the Ibanez pd-7. but still, they're great pedals to own.
Hell yeah! The B7K in particular has very quickly become 'my sound,' and is really the sound I'd been hearing in my head for a long time. The PD7 is something I've used live for flavor, but isn't anywhere close to always on thing for me.
I own a darkglass vmt and a digitech bass driver. I've been using the vmt as my smooth overdrive while I use the digitech bass driver as my heavy distortion. both sounded great with my chorus and flanger pedals.
Tried a digitech bass driver and a mooer bass OD today, not really what i'm looking for.... cant wait to try an EHX bass Big Muff as the youtube demos are starting to make me want one bad! still looking for a solution to my phat hed woes though
You can go wrong with a Bass Big Muff. If you like the PD-7 so much why not just buy another one. They are super cheap.
Or just buy this. Its a fantastic OD pedal and sounds amazing on bass. Found right here in the classifieds. Great price too! http://www.talkbass.com/threads/chandler-tube-works-tube-driver.1106133/
I'd love to however i'm in the uk and shipping + taxes is always crippling buying stuff from the US. and The PD7 is unavailable in the uk, not even on ebay!
