Hey guys compete noob question here.

I am getting a good deal on a Yorkville 8x8 cabinet and a peavey 400.

The Peavey is 210 w at 2 ohm

The Yorkville 8x8 is 800 watts, 4 ohm resistance.

If I understand correctly I'll be putting 100 w into the Yorkville.

Will this be loud enough to play along with drums?

Do you need any sort of conversion to plug an amp into a head with different resistance?

    Thanks

Don't fret over the impedance, but 100 watts is not very much power. I'd think that cab with a good 300+ watts through it would do well though.

Think it'd probably be more like 140 watts, which is on the light side. The 88 cab is likely going to perform between a generic 212 & 215. If you're getting a great deal, then give it a whirl & report back.

  4. It will be around 140 to 150 watts into the 4 ohm cab. I'd prefer more, but it will still do OK in *most* situations (typical bar, classic rock type stuff). I gigged with a similar Peavey amp and a 2x15 for many years.

If you have a very loud band with a really hard hitting drummer you would want more power...and earplugs...

I used one of the 8x8 cabinets at a jam and was pleasantly surprised how well it handled my six string. I agree that the Peavey will be a bit on the light side but perhaps it might surfice. You could always sell the amp and put the money towards something more powerful.

  6. And keep the lows dialed down a tad, let the mids through--especially with that 8x8...the cab isn't going to have a lot of really deep bass anyways. Trying to EQ more bass in is merely going to eat up amp power, and make the speakers fart out.

  7. That cab does have some beef though. i would buy both with the idea to sell the peavey and buy somethin cool later on. Like a yba200-2 or yba300:bassist:
