So today I played a peavey firebass 700 hooked into a peavey 4-12 cab. the amp is 700 watts into 2 ohms and the cab was 4 ohms so i was cranking out 475 watts... I have never played a peavey bass amp before. I like the peavey cirrus but i was still skeptical about the amps. This thing rocked my world. it didn't have tons of controls but what it had offered a huge variety of tones. I didn't have my ray so I picked up a jay turser copy.. It made the Jay turser sound good.. no ray but still good.. Then i hooked up a fender jazz.. oh gee. it was so awesome.. this amp is one of the most versitile amps I can recall playing on... And it wasn't even that expensive... the head was $439 i believe. or maybe $479... Anyone know much about this bass rig.. have you guys found any problems with it.. after my last two gigs.. i really have found the need to have a slightly bigger amp because the dang sound guy refuses to turn me up in the mains... Thank
hahaha! thats great! (about the trademark idea) yeah theres been a thread running about peaveys 412 cab, entitled "huh!?! are they nuts?!?" i started it, as im looking for opinions on this cab, im interested too. thats cool to know someone liked it. by chance, was the bass you tested it with a 4 or 5 string?
I tried it with the 4 string turser then the 5 string cirrus... excellent low end... the cabs rating goes down to like 30hz...
I've never played a peavey 4x12 but I've heard good things about them. I used to have a FireBass 700 It is an excellent head. I never had any problems with it. The only reason I got rid of it was to get my Peavey BAM, otherwise I'd still use it. If you like it go for it!
I play thru a 330 watt head into a peavey 410 supposedly rated at 350 RMS and 30hz. If I turn the master up past 5 and play below low E its fart city. Time to go hunting for another rig. But thats the 410 and it does sound good if I dont drive the amp too hard. I just dont get how they can rate it at 30hz and sound like that.
Its probably your head, if it is that low of wattage you are running out of head room, and distorting your signal, I used to use a Peavey 4x10, and even with a B string I had no problem with it at loud (Firebass 700 cranked to 9) settings. Try a different head with it or don't play so loud. The Firebass 700 won't have this problem.
That's because you have your pregain set at 11, as you said in your other thread. Your pregain should be around 5, not your volume at 5 and pregain at 11! That's more a strike against your EQing than your equipment. If you put the pregain up to 11 and play through any cabinet, it's going to fart out notes.
I've played the 412TVX with a G-K 1001RB at the store, and a few basses that were alien to me, but it seemed to be a incredibly versatile cabinet. I use a Peavey 410TXF, Peavey 115BXBW, and Peavey Firebass II 700. (running at full 700 watts @ 2 ohms) If you have any specific questions, shoot. I may even be selling one cab and my head, (both are in mint) nothing's definety yet, I want to try the BAM 210 and see what all this rave's about. PM me or e-mail me: [email protected] , if you're interested. It's a great setup, I must say.
i have a peavey firebass 700 with 2 410tvx bottoms and i play a five string...let me tell u this ..it kicks a$$......get your amp checked
I have nothing but good stuff to say about the Firebass 700. I had one for a couple of years, then got stupid and sold it. I would have gotten another one, but I went Ampeg instead. I have never gotten the opportunity to try a 412 cab, though. But I would really like to, as I have heard a lot of good things about them.
