As long as the trussrod works, buy it RIGHT NOW! That is a classic Super Ferrite pickup Foundation. It will sound like a super aggressive Fender Jazz.
I think I'm going to pass. I really don't need another bass that's just gonna sit on a stand in my living room.
The main thing is that you need a Gibson style trussrod wrench. You may still be able to get a Peavey trussrod wrench too. If you don’t want it, PM me the information. Depending on the shipping cost, I might get it myself.
curious about your "...USA made?" question: - you want USA made products? - there is something about USA made peaveys of that era which you prefer? thanks.
I say get it, DW. The price is small, and if it only needs a trussrod wrench, you will have a monster of a player.
Has the potential to be a great bass. Obvious refin on the headstock....maybe not the original neck? Worth a look anyways.
Yes, made in USA. I've owned several Peaveys from this era, and not a single one has ever had a truss rod issue. Quite the opposite- still worked flawlessly after 30+ years. This will likely need a Gibson tool, like others have suggested. I'm guessing the whole bass has been refinished, but the headstock has definitely been, as it's missing the logo and all that. Looks like it comes with the case, which can be hard to find.
I was an avid reader of Peavey's Monitor magazine and still have them all from the 80's and 90's lol. The Dyna Bass 5 caught my eye and I wanted a 5 string Dyna so bad that I especially ordered one for me here in Australia and bought unseen through Aussie music stores Allans and Australis Music, on special order from Peavey USA...received my Dyna Bass new in 1991, made a minor adjustment to the truss rod upon arrival and not touched it since. Gigged constantly with from '91 to current date. Magnificent bass guitar made in the USA has served me well for nearly 30 years.
Good price, you might be able to negotiate a few bucks lower if seller is motivated, but you know that's a "rough" spray can finish. If it's mechanically sound and you can live with a rough DIY paint job or plan to refin, I'd jump on it. I hope they didn't spray the neck pocket. That giant tug bar would definitely have to go.
What “truss rod issues”? Never heard of that in relation to a Foundation. I suspect your luthier friend doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
It's all good. Just had a G.A.S. moment. I'd much rather have a 5 string as I have enough 4 strings sitting around my living room gathering dust. Price is excellent and most likely no neck issues. If I was in need of a 4 string bass, I'd most certainly jump on it at that price.
I'd say the truss rod issues thing is ridiculous, but I'd probably still pass. The head shape looks odd, or something. It does look like it has the original knobs though, which are worth enough that people steal them. The usa models are pretty much all nicer than the the oversees made ones, so that would be the usa deal for me, anyway. Not to say others can't still be nice (I'd love to have one of the newer indonesian cirruses).
