Peavey Fury replacement pickups

  1. I was going to replace the pickup in one of my Furies. My other one i left all stock and strung it with DR flatwounds. So for this one, i'm looking for something that sounds great with round wound strings and has decent output. I was thinking about the Dimarzio Split P or the EMG GZR P. How would those sound, or should I go for something else?

The Dimarzio Model P will be a little more aggressive than the GZR. I have a P-Bass set up with a Model P and nickel round strings. It does just what I want for Classic Rock, Modern Rock, and anything in between.

  3. By more aggresive, you mean hotter? Thanks, that's good to know. I've always been curious about the Dimarzios.

  4. I found this enlightening. I can hear what you mean by more aggresive. There's more bite in the high end of the Dimarzios.

I think the aggressive tone comes from the pickup’s mids and high end presence that are typical with ceramic mag pickups. The Model P is a little on the hot side with an 11.5 DC resistance, but it sounds bigger and hotter. It’s one of my favorite Precision pickups, especially for Rock music.
