Peavey Pro Bass 500 or Firebass 700

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by prizefighter, Jan 11, 2009.

  1. Im upgrading my rig and I can't decide between a Firebass 700 or a Pro Bass 500. The Pro Bass is a little more expensive but I like the tube preamp. Any opinions?

The Pro Bass IMO sounds more refined but both are a lot of bang for the buck.

I'm reluctant to post, as I pissed off several members in the "iPhone for bass" thread...

Go with the Pro 500...the tube pre (which rounds out the tone and gives you enough grind for days) and SS power are beyond measure (be sure to try to run thru 2 4ohm cabs for maximum power).....you won"t be dissapointed, friend :) I own one, and in my 22+ years of playing, it's the BEST amp I've ever owned. I played exclusively thru SWR amplification for years...this amp smokes anything in the SWR line by a long country mile.....have fun!

  4. Thanks for the replies, I am leaning towards the Pro Bass from music go round. anyone have any experience with them?

pro bass all the way. Tuner out with mute, a speakon, rear input, better looks, lighter, rackable, XLR out on back, I could go on. I've seen some for sale here and eBay. How much mud-go-rou asking?

  6. $299 without shipping which i would have to get it shipped since i dont have one local to me

Good deal, I'd take it if I were you. The EQ system is a bit overkill, I rarely ever use it, but it's as full featured an amp as you'll get. The only downside is it was designed to run one or two 4-ohm cabs. That's the way Peavey's own cabinets were all designed. But the norm is now 8-ohm cabs, so you'd need two cabs to get 350 watts. Not a big deal, I used it with one 4 ohm cab for years and had zero issues with volume, that's for sure.

Agreed - I've played both, and prefer the PB 500...
