pedal cost question

Discussion in 'Effects [BG]' started by superbassman2000, Jan 19, 2005.

  1. so, i think my feedback loop pedal scared people off...but i want to know why effect pedals are so expensive. i am looking at making a feedback loop pedal, which looks like it costs about 15 bucks to make, but death by audio sells one for $150! that is a lot of money for basically 2 switches and a few wires...so can someone explain why pedals are so expensive!

I would guess mainly volume. It takes time to develop and test a good pedal. Somebody has to pay for that. Guitarists are a limited market. Now take the number of guitarists looking for a particular style of pedal. Now take the number who will buy your pedal rather than the competitors.
