Pedal tuner

Hey there effects guys.
I'm looking for a pedal tuner that tunes whenever it's got power, but also has a mute switch, so I can tune and hear myself at the same time. The preamp I am using does not have a tuner out.
Reading descriptions I can't really tell what will do this for me.
Thanks for any advice.

The two main reasons for a "tuner out" on an amp are:
--Avoid having a potentially tone-sucking tuner in your signal path.
--Using a rackmounted tuner.

Seems like I've seen a tuner that has the "mute instead of bypass" function you've described, but I can't recall which one.

I figured that it would be extremely useful for practice, since I am soon to have a fretless bass. I also figured there would be a fretless player in here who has the easy answer for me :D So obviously it also needs to be chromatic, maybe I should have mentioned that in the OP. I know I should be using my ear, but I have tested and my ear is only accurate to three cents either way. So I can get most of the way by myself, but not perfection. At least not without practice.

I just picked up a Boss TU-2 for pretty cheap. The store was trying to clear them out to make room for the TU-3.

It has two output jacks, one for bypass (you always hear the sound coming out of the pedal) and one normal output (the output is muted when you engage the tuner).

It's not always on, but I'm not sure why you'd want that?

Not sure that you'd want to do it this way, but you could get an A/B switch - run one out to the tuner and the other through your chain and just leave them both on for normal playing. To mute it, just turn the part going to your chain off.

In which case, don't get a Boss if you're looking for more accurate as they are +/- 3 cents with their accuracy (I wouldn't recommend one either way honestly). The most accurate pedal tuner out there is the Sonic Research Turbo Tuner at +/- .02 cents. The Peterson Strobostomp is +/- .1 cent.

I want to be able to mute it, too, so the bypass jack won't do it.
I want it for practicing fretless.

From the looks of it, this is what I will have to do. Was hoping I wouldn't have to spend extra on an A/B. Unless anyone else knows something...
