i am probably going to buy a pedulla rapture bass. i've played one here in phx, az at guitar center and i love it. i just want to make sure i won't kick myself for missing out on something else because it has taken me 6months to save up. i play a fender jazz deluxe and i also have played a borrowed modulus at my gigs. i play through an aguilar 4x10 and a swr head. i play a lot of jazz and blues rock and want to keep my killer warm tone i already have. but i have some slap gigs and my only reservation about the pedulla is the bartonlini pickup. it played perfect on a red head combo there but people have said things about the bartolini not being a good slap pop pickup.(say that 10 times fast). mabey i'm worrying about nothing because i have been known to dial in about any tone i want with my amp and i love the preamp on the pedulla. also is there anything else out there i should try before i make my decsion? i have $1800-2000. thanks for any and all feedback.:)

Bill, I own a Rapture J2 5 string, and IMHO it is the ultimate 5 string Jazz style bass.

Are you considering the 4 string or 5 string?

Mine has the 2 Bartolini J's, and with the 2 band preamp I can get a great slap tone out of it. I also have a birdseye maple fingerboard, which is quite a bit brighter than rosewood.

There are some people who don't like Barts, but they're my favorite pickups, as well as a lot of the other regulars here.

Bottom line, if you like the tone, go for it. If you don't, get something else.

i saw a picture of yours at your gear page. i think it's one of the most beautiful basses made today. i am going to go with a 5. i only own 4's and i have already missed out on more than one session. now i play with a blues rock band and we have been touring so i don't really need one now, but i am going to do more and more sessions when i get back(hopefully) i've played 5's alot so i am familiar with the big b but i will still need to learn how to play with tact so i don't live up there or overcompensate. :) today i played a fender jazz 5 and i really dug it, but it's no pedulla.

I used to own a Rapture 4 with the single Bart pickup and it was a monster funk bass. I sold it because it was Emerald City meets kryptonite green (they call it "Planet Green," yeah, like all the green on the entire planet condensed into one small area) and, being on the wrong side of 40, it was a bit much for a geezer like me. But I loved the bass all around, except for the barrel saddles on the bridge. My G saddle would slowly lower itself as I played. Weird. But if you go withe Rapture, you'll never be sorry. I have two Roscoes now, which I love (a fretted and a fretless), but after them, the Pedulla was my favorite of all. Good luck.

Which Rapture? J2? PJ? Whatever you get, you won't regret it. Major tone monster. Here's a shot of my ThunderBolt 5 fretless, which is a kissin' cousin to the Rapture.
