Our friend of 30 years and her family went home to Chalmette, in St. Bernard Parish east of New Orleans, to see what they could recover from Katrina. She called in tears. Her home and those of other family members were in splinters. They were able to recover only one photograph, nothing else. We have offered her family our home, but Colorado is a long way from their home and family history. As the days since Katrina hit begin to turn into weeks and months, let's keep the plight of the people of the Gulf Coast in our hearts and prayers.
