With my 350, when I used my VT as the preamp I plugged the unit into the effects return. It worked great. Now with the 500, I did that...got no sound. Plugged into the power amp in...and it was enormous, but it seemed like it defeated all the panel controls which made the VT the sole controller like a old school amp w no preamp gain or master... the level control handled all the volume.

    Is this hooked up right?

How do you have the FX MIX set on the front panel. This sets the pre-amp in vs effects return mix level. If it is fully CCW, the effect return is off. You need to turn up the FX mix level.

When you plugged into the power amp in, you are bypassing the pre-amp and going directly into the power amp. It doesn't take much to drive it to full power. The only volume control would be the level setting on the VT pedal.
