Anyone ever have problems with this ped? I installed a J-retro in my jazz bass and when now when I go to use my MXR phase 90 it doesn't even sound like its on. Sounded fine with all my other basses, including the jazz before the preamp install. I run a GK MB800 thru a BNA BASSIC 115. My controls on the amp are all at noon including the contour. Gain and volume to taste. The preamp has the highs at max, bass at the center notch, and the mids slightly boosted in the lower mids. Is it EQ, pre too hot, or maybe this particular model doesn't like active basses? Also FYI its a newer model, not vintage phase 90. Thanks!

  2. can you bypass the active pre? Wonder if the phaser isn't like the low impedance signal

It also figures I get a great all night useable tone for doing my cover band thing then this. Really don't want to have to buy a new phaser. Ill try my EHX 4800 when I have time. Might be better.

You can adjust the output of the J-retro to match the active level with the passive. There is a trim pot inside for each pickup, so you can match them to each other, then take them both down the same amount.

Also, since your maxing your treble, I wonder if you need to turn the bass knob down. The bass EQ on the J-retro is boost only, center detent is not flat. I don't know much about phasers, but if they don't like too many lows, that could be your problem.

Ill give the EQ another shot. I do enjoy the volume boost. I might mess with it when I have to change the battery.

Yes, a mid-cut will definitely remove the swoosh, as will large amounts of bass (mud). I've been playing with eqing and modulation all week.
